PCA Ridgecrest to Tehachapi Tour - Jan 31st

Tehachapi, CA

About this event

⚠️ Weather Notice

This tour travels through mountain terrain where winter weather can change quickly. We’ll be closely monitoring conditions and may adjust the route as needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable drive.

Join us for a great winter drive that showcases a completely different side of our region—wide-open desert, big elevation changes, and some genuinely fun roads along the way.

We’ll meet in Ridgecrest at 10:00 AM for a brief drivers’ meeting before heading out on CA-178 toward Lake Isabella. We’ll plan a short comfort stop along the way to stretch our legs, then continue on to one of the highlights of the day: the Bodfish Road section, packed with twisty, engaging corners that are a blast to drive.

Lunch at P-Dubs Brew Pub

Our finish line for the day is P-Dubs Brew Pub in Old Town Tehachapi — a lively, family-friendly local favorite with big flavor and big portions. P-Dubs offers a full-service bar, indoor and outdoor dining, and a fun atmosphere complete with a jukebox, shuffleboard, and pool for those who want a little extra entertainment after lunch.

The menu features an extensive range of classic pub fare and creative options — from burgers and sandwiches to tacos, fish & chips, wings, and unique items like cheesy tots and nachos — plus plenty of beers on tap and cocktails if you’re in the mood for something cold after the drive.

Whether you’re craving a hearty lunch or want to linger over drinks and games with fellow members, P-Dubs has something for everyone.

Route highlights:

  • ~110 miles of scenic driving

  • Over 10,500 feet of elevation gain

  • A mix of open highway, elevation changes, and plenty of twisties

Important weather note:

This route crosses mountain terrain, and late-January weather can be unpredictable. We’ll be watching conditions closely as the date approaches. Our goal is to adjust the route if needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable drive, rather than cancel outright—but final decisions will depend on the weather closer to January 31.

If the weather cooperates, this should be a fantastic way to spend a Saturday behind the wheel. We hope you’ll join us.

Group Drive Safety Guidelines:

  1. Safety is our first priority!  Turn on your headlights and remember our group drives are not track events.
  2. Drive aware.  Road hazards such as road debris/rocks can be kicked up by other cars and trucks unexpectedly. Remember that your PCA friend’s car, that they love as well, is behind you. Bicycling groups, wildlife, and slow moving utility vehicles are commonly encountered on weekends and in rural areas where we’re headed.
  3.  Please ensure you and your vehicles are tour-ready prior to departure:  sufficient fuel, oil and coolant levels are topped up, healthy and properly inflated tires, bio break etc.
  4. Once we are established on the drive, stay in your position relative to the other vehicles in the group.  Maintain a safe nose-to-tail following distance from the vehicle ahead of you.  No distracted driving, please.
  5. Stay aware of the lead vehicle.  The route may have to be changed due to traffic or road conditions/closures.  Stay flexible!
  6. If you experience a mechanical issue/failure and must pull over, the sweeper will advise the group and peel off with stranded member(s) for assistance and advise the group of status.  No member will be left stranded.
  7. Often we experience little/no cellular phone coverage along our twisty road adventures. Our group utilizes handheld UHF two-way radios for communication and safety. If you have a radio, pay attention and listen for any updates that may be broadcast. If you have your own UHF radio, please tune to channel 5-5; if we need to change channels due to interference, a new channel number will be broadcast to everyone in our group. VIsit this member discussion to learn more about UHF Radios.
  8. As always, club veterans are at your services for any questions or concerns you may have.
